At the heart of Nichecom is an ISO-registered laboratory that calibrates and repairs test and measurement equipment used in the communications, power generation, distribution and transmission, and other technical industries.

In 1987, Nichecom was set up as a service organisation specialising in the technical support of communications test and measurement equipment. This expertise continues as our laboratory services.

1989 saw the formation of the sales division, with the primary focus being test and measurement sales.

In 2026, with the retirement of the last of the first generation of managers, Nichecom (2026) Limited was created to continue the business. Nichecom is now owned by HV Power Measurements and Protection Limited (trading as HV Power) which is a privately held New Zealand technology company providing products and hands-on support to power utility companies, their engineering consultants, and contractors.

Nichecom are the New Zealand distributors for Microchip products, while HV Power are the New Zealand distributors for Microchip’s Tekron range. (Tekron was an independent New Zealand producer of GPS clocks for the power industry until its purchase by Microchip in 2020). This common representation is the driver for founding Nichecom (2026) Limited and allows each company to best serve customers with the most appropriate solutions.

Founded in 1994, HV Power is a privately held technology company providing superior products and hands-on support to power utility companies, their engineering consultants and contractors. It has grown to over 60 employees with offices in Auckland and Wellington and staff also working in other locations such as Melbourne and Brisbane.
